Juventus fans at the Juventus stadium booed coach Gianluigi Buffon, saying they would not attend their team’s games because of his decision to award them a new academic degree in an attempt to protect his job.
“You are ruining the team’s reputation,” a man in the crowd shouted, referring to the university awarded to Buffon by President Silvio Berlusconi.
“No one wants to come to Juventus,” a woman in the same crowd said.
“We will not come here because of this.”
Juventus won the Serie A title last season and have now clinched a spot in the Champions League knockout stages.
“I am the president, I am responsible for the team,” Buffon said.
